OUR MISSION

To explore, study, preserve and spread knowledge about the use of fungi for helping people and planet.

Each mushroom species collected by Paul from the old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest is sustainably harvested. The ecosystem remains intact and unharmed. We carefully culture the mycelium for the Host Defense products on the Fungi Perfecti Farm in a way that maintains the lowest P Value® possible. The proprietary P Value® system creates identical genetic matches to the mycelium found in their native habitats, ensuring the provenance and genetic vitality of each mushroom strain we use. Our chain-of-custody guarantees the efficacy and viability of the species in the Host Defense line: from the Forest, to our Farm, to You™.

COMPANY PHILOSOPHY

The Old Growth Forest of the Pacific Northwest is home to many species of fungi

We have all had the thought, “The Earth is in trouble – what can I do?” In response to this call, I wrote Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World, unveiling mycological remedies that we all can use to help heal the Earth. We live not only in a biosphere, but also within a mycosphere, aided by often-invisible fungal allies who protect and nurture us. Life is based upon symbiosis and mutualism. Fungi produce the mycelial networks that connect us all. Fungi create soils, the cradle of life. Since human and ecological health are interdependent, the wise use of fungi can protect biodiversity, the lives of our descendants, and the planet that hosts us. We are part of one global community. MyCommunity™, Supporting Natural Immunity™ and Host Defense® are more than slogans to promote products—they reflect our deep-rooted belief that, with our fungal allies, and you, as citizens of Earth, we can live on this planet more sustainably.

Host Defense® capsules are packaged in 100% post-consumer-waste recycled tORT plastic bottles and boxed in 100% recycled (50% post-consumer-waste) fiberboard, printed with vegetable inks. When you purchase Host Defense® products for resale, your order is shipped in a Life Box™. In March of 2010, Host Defense was awarded the Green Packy Award for Responsible Packaging from the Sutainable Business Coalition and Whole Foods Market’s Green Coalition. The award recognized the Life Box as an embodiment of the three principles of Responsible Packaging Standards: Transparency, Ecological Principles and Extended Producer Responsibility.

All of this is part of our continuing effort to "walk our talk", and help do our part.

A portion of the proceeds from your purchase is invested in Fungi Perfecti’s research to save rare strains of mushrooms that dwell within the old growth forests.
